Nora The Piano Cat is a 5-year-old gray tabby shelter rescue in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Gray and sleek, she strokes the keys with grace and restraint. She rubs her cheek on the keyboard and mews while playing piano. Sometimes she likes to get inside the piano, sometimes playing duets with her owner and her owner’s students. Someone characterized her music as being “something halfway between Philip Glass and free jazz.”
Since that time, Nora has continued to play the piano on a daily basis. Meowzart become her new nickname.
Nora’s musical skills have made her a You Tube sensation, US media star, and also the object of a video on animal behavior. Millions of cat lovers across the world know Nora by her videos on YouTube, where they’ve surpassed 20 million views since the original Nora video was posted.
The CATcerto is the current project of the Lithuanian conductor, composer and artist Mindaugas Piechaitis. The world premiere was performed by soloist Nora The Piano Cat via video and Klaipeda Chamber Orchestra in the Klaipeda Concert Hall in Klaipeda (Lithuania) last year.
